ABOUT THE ARTIST
American, 1898 - 1990
The classically-inspired character of this sculpture is suggestive of Art Deco design, and Jean de Marco was born in France and studied at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs. He later settled in America, and exhibited widely at museums (National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Acadey of Fine Arts) as well as private galleries such as Marie Sterner, Boyer and Bucholz. De Marco worked on WPA projects and provided sculpture for post offices and the Department of War Building in Washington, D.C.
